Pipeline markings
Each sign has a specific (RAL) color. This color can be found on the side. It tells us something about the medium/content in the pipe. The top of the sign states the location of the pipe. At the bottom you will find the familiar GHS pictograms explaining the chemicals. Additionally a QR code can be found on each sign. Every user can scan the code with their phone or tablet and is immediately directed to a website, where more information about the pipes in the complex can be found.
Overview and simplicity
There are several signs at each pipe, which contain all the information an employee needs to find his/her way around the pipelines. In large companies, it is common to have employees of different nationalities. Therefore, the choice was made to have less text, but clear pictograms. The simple design increases employee safety and reduces the chance of making mistakes. When AHAA Industry had installed the first new signs at Shell in Moerdijk, people were amazed at the good readability and clear simplicity of the sign. They were also very pleased with the use of a QR code on the sign.
Material
The sign was designed by the employees of AHAA Industry themselves and made together with a regular supplier. The sign is assembled to the pipe in a simple manner, by means of special rubber straps. The material is Dibond. This is recycled plastic with an aluminum top layer, resistant to alkalis and acids. The prints are water-based and a transparent top coat protects the print against weather influences, especially UV protection. The life span of the prints are 15 years. Should something need to be replaced, it’s easily and quickly taken care of at AHAA Industry. Should something need to be replaced, AHAA Industry will take care of it quickly and easily.

Flow direction belts
The arrow on the sticker indicates the direction in which the content flows. The colour indicates the type of content.
Signs for the fire brigade
The fire signs are A3 size and are placed at the beginning of the piperacks, where most of the pipes meet. This design was made in consultation with the Shell Fire Brigade. These signs are made of the same material as the pipe signs and have the same sustainable characteristics.
Stickers for barrels and storage tanks
All stickers are printed on sustainably produced PVC, the printed material is water-based, the Dol 1030 UV protection layer is also sustainable, which means that the stickers have a lifespan of at least 10 years.
Stickers with GHS pictograms
The GHS Symbols (CLP) are available in different sizes as signs, stickers, stickers on rolls, magnetic foil or packaging tape. These internationally recognisable hazard pictograms apply to the delivery, shipping (by land, rail and water) and the usage of chemical substances and mixtures and must be used on a mandatory basis in the EU since 1 June 2015.
GHS labels are black pictograms on a white background with a red frame. The stickers are available with and without a white frame and the signs only with a white or red frame.
Important for emergency services
For emergency services it is of the utmost importance that the cause of an incident can be located as quickly as possible, especially in the petrochemical industry. Often when there is a problem, there is not much time to locate the cause. Simple, but clear signing ensures that there is overview and structure at a site. It is also important that a fire department employee can quickly find their way around an industrial complex. This saves valuable time and prevents possible escalation of an incident.
